What limited company owners tell us
Multiple deadlines
Companies House accounts, the confirmation statement, Corporation Tax, VAT Returns and payroll all run on different cycles.
Salary and dividends
How you pay yourself affects both company and Personal Tax. It is worth reviewing each year rather than repeating last year's figures.
Company money is not your money
Director loan accounts, personal expenses and drawings taken without planning can create unexpected tax charges.
Records that do not reconcile
If bookkeeping is behind, year-end becomes an investigation rather than a review, and the figures arrive too late to be useful.
Tax paid without warning
Corporation tax is payable before the return is due. Without a forecast the payment can land at an awkward moment.
No view between year-ends
Annual accounts tell you about a period that has already finished. Decisions need something more current.
How Goodman Accounting can help
We look after the whole compliance cycle and keep the company and director positions joined up through the year.
Year End Accounts
Statutory accounts prepared, reviewed with you and filed with Companies House.
Corporation Tax
Computations and the CT600 prepared alongside the accounts, with allowances and reliefs claimed correctly.
Director tax planning
Salary, dividends and pension contributions reviewed together with your Personal Tax return.
VAT and Payroll
Quarterly MTD returns and RTI payroll run on schedule, including auto-enrolment duties.
Company Secretarial
Confirmation statements, registers and Companies House changes kept current.
Management information
Monthly or quarterly reporting where you want visibility rather than an annual look back.
The services limited companies usually need.
A typical company year
Bookkeeping through the year
Transactions are processed and reconciled so the records stay current.
Regular filings
VAT Returns and payroll submissions are prepared and filed on their own cycles.
Year-end preparation
After the accounting reference date we prepare the statutory accounts and tax computation.
Review meeting
We go through the results, the tax position and profit extraction before anything is filed.
Filing and payment planning
Accounts and the CT600 are submitted, and you know the amounts and dates to pay.
Questions we are asked most.
If your question is not here, ask us directly — an initial conversation costs nothing.
Ask a questionWhat are the main filing obligations?
Annual accounts to Companies House, a Corporation Tax return to HMRC, a confirmation statement, plus VAT and payroll filings where relevant. We track all of them for you.
How should I pay myself?
Usually a combination of salary and dividends, and sometimes pension contributions. The right mix depends on profits, other income and your plans, so we review it each year.
What is a director's loan account?
It records money moving between you and the company outside salary and dividends. Overdrawn balances can create tax charges, so we monitor it.
Do I need to be VAT registered?
Registration is required above the turnover threshold, and voluntary registration sometimes helps. We advise on the position and the most suitable scheme.
Can you handle everything in one package?
Yes. Most clients take accounts, Corporation Tax, payroll, VAT and their personal return together with fees agreed upfront.
